The Week of Hefty Investments
Today is #StartupDay, and in celebration of the startup journey, I decided to compile some exciting news from the world of Israeli startups to keep fellow self-starters motivated.
For years Israel has been dubbed as a startup nation, but that scenario is changing and the last week certainly proved this. Six Israeli startups managed to raise large sums of money for their ops between July 24–25, battling the two biggest startup problems: funding and scaling up.
Big Win for Big Data
- Data analytics firm, SimilarWeb raised $47M and is now valued at close to $800M, inching ever closer to the unicorn mark. SimilarWeb, with offices in the US, Israel and other parts of the world, has a global appeal capable of rivaling data measurement giant, Nielsen.
- Herzliya-based Iguazio — an agile clouds maker and real-time data analytics firm — managed to rope in a $33M series B funding.
- A relative new entrant to the big data analytics business, Somatix, also based in Herzliya, has secured a $6M investment that will enable it to keep building its BMD Management platform. This platform is the first of its kind that enables “physical and emotional medical symptoms to be observed from the simplest hand gestures” obtained from wearable tech.
Securing the Web
- The buzz-word for the first-half of this year has been “fake news” which came to light during the last US Presidential elections. PerimeterX, a cyber-security firm raised $23M to keep raging its war against fake-news generating bots.
- Based in Herzliya and Santa Clara, another security firm, Nyotron raised $21M, and named former McAfee executive, Peter Stewart, as its new CEO. That amounts to two swift coups in the tech-world for the up-and-coming firm.
Going Green
- Agtech startup, Prospera raised $15M in series B funds to grow globally and improve its operations. The firm uses “computer vision and artificial intelligence to help farmers analyze data gathered from their fields.”
